Press Release - IncuFest 2017

Organised by students of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), the “Incufest 2017” is an entrepreneurship showcase featuring students who undergo the ‘Incubation Programme’ on their Discovery Year.

Held on 22nd April 2017 at UBD’s Bamboo Hall and Student Centre, the ‘Incufest 2017’ entrepreneurship showcase exhibited various businesses and ideas in collaboration with UBD School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE), UBD’s Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) and the University Incubation program (U.Inc.Startups). This event is coordinated by Entrepreneurship Village (EV), the university’s entrepreneurial platform for entrepreneurship education and ecosystem. The admission to the event was free of charge.

The Vice Chancellor of UBD, Datin Dr Hjh Anita Binurul Zahrina Binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Hj Awang Abdul Aziz officiated the event in the presence of other principal officers from UBD, staff and students.

In its effort to build and lead a multidiscipline entrepreneurship ecosystem amongst the higher learning institutions, UBD promotes a multi-disciplinary approach from various faculties with specific reference to the alliances made with the ‘University Incubation’ program and the ‘Entrepreneurship Village’ within the university. With the theme “Multidisciplinary Incubation at the University”, this event supports the notion as for the first time, all entrepreneurial efforts, both pragmatic and theory-based are gathered under one main event. More than 70 ideas and businesses consisting of App development, videography, logistic services, retail and fashion (including KAVA that has recently won and will represent Brunei for the KL Fashion week in September 2017), food and beverages, services and hospitality with much to offer. The objectives of the showcase are to provide a platform which aids these newly founded ventures reach out to their target markets within the general public consensus and most importantly to send the message that our students are gearing towards self-sustainability before graduation through entrepreneurship.

As the public enjoyed a variety of products emerging from different enterprises in the higher learning institutions, it is hoped that this event will serve as a means of inspiration, networking and opportunity exploitation to any aspiring entrepreneurs, individuals and investors.
